My name is Taylor Smith (she/her) and I entered clinical social work because I believe in the power of relationship as a vehicle for growth and healing, and because I also believe it’s important to recognize the systems of power, control, and culture that impact our well being. I strive to be BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ allied and affirming. I value helping individuals find peace and joy in their identity.

Modalities I pull from include: Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR). Teachers who guide me in this work include Tara Brach, Pixie Lighthorse, Nedra Glover Tawwab, Gabor Mate and my own therapist/healing work. An overarching goal I have for clients I work with is for them to build tolerance for the whole spectrum of emotions and learn to experience them as neutral information, or even as wisdom that leads to informed choice.

Experiences that led me down the path of clinical social work include several years of social justice work in Oregon prisons during my undergraduate studies at the University of Oregon and seven years of advocacy and peer counseling for survivors of gender-based violence. I completed my Master of Social Work (MSW) at Portland State University in 2022 and am currently a Certified Social Work Associate (CSWA) under supervision and working towards licensure. For the past year and a half I worked as a behavioral health consultant in a primary care setting addressing whole person health: mental, emotional, physical and day to day functional well being. I look forward to pulling this wider scope into practice here at Stronger Oregon.

Common labels we put on experiences that might be a good fit for my expertise include: anxiety, stress, trauma, abuse, gender affirming care, grief, attachment wounding, codependency, family members of people with addiction, boundary setting work, and life change/transitions. This is a non-exhaustive list and if my approach seems like a good fit for you, I encourage you to reach out!

In my humble opinion, shopping (yes, I used the word “shopping”) for a therapist is simply overwhelming. Totally on par with the aggravation of using a dating app: countless profiles to filter through, wondering whether to swipe right or left, Guessing at trustworthiness and level of compassion based on a photo and a few carefully crafted paragraphs. And so we swipe. And swipe. And swipe. Hoping to match with “The One”. Perhaps a rather interesting comparison, but it’s true! There’s a lot of good therapists out there and despite the fact that there’s probably a therapist for everyone, not every therapist is for you.

My approach is to be open and honest. I’m a Gen X’er: former latch key kid, Midwestern farm girl raised on hotdish, school pizza, and the Pledge of Allegiance. A biracial (Honduran/Black American) and transracial adoptee raised in a tiny, all-white, conservative community. I was always “the only one in the room” and because of that, I figured out how to assimilate by honing my listening skills and learning how to read the room. After experiencing some major life transitions that are typically experienced at midlife, I started my journey as a therapist after my nest emptied and entered graduate school at 50. Today, I’m a single, divorced mom of two awesome adult humans, an adolescent German Shepherd mix rescue pup and an elderly cat. My happy place is travelling occasionally, reading, listening to music, and relaxing in my hammock. I find joy in the simplicity of life and believe that time waits for no man and being present and in the moment is what’s most important.

To me, being a therapist comes with major responsibilities. To be chosen and trusted by strangers with their innermost thoughts, fears, and experiences is a privilege and honour that I take seriously. I especially enjoy providing support and guidance to women in the middle-to-end seasons of their lives. This stage of life can be especially challenging and lonely due to the mental and physical challenges of menopause and life transitions such as empty nest, the Gray Divorce, caring for ageing parents, questioning sexuality, deaths of spouse or parents, and really just trying to adjust to all the changes that occur during this time of life. Life can seem overwhelmingly unfair and frustrating and cause us to feel invisible. While I feel an affinity for Internal Family Systems (IFS) and mindfulness, I draw from several modalities and focus primarily on a positive, solution focused and goal oriented approach.

Navigating this journey called life can be a lonely journey. I invite any adult to reach out if they feel a connection with me in any sort of way and are interested in finding out more. Please know that I hold space especially for those who belong to the BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and sex workers communities. I see you, I hear you, and offer sanctuary, understanding, non-judgement, and curiosity in my space. Peace

I have over 25 years experience in working with diverse groups of people, all with varying life challenges, ranging in age from 4 years and up.  I graduated with my Master of Social Work from Louisiana State University in 2013.  As a social worker I have worked in a variety of social work settings: hospice, corrections/forensic, oncology, primary and secondary school settings with children, substance abuse education and treatment, community mental health, and a children's advocacy center.  I have experience in substance abuse recovery, co-occurring disorders, anxiety, depression, adjustment/transitional issues, grief & anticipatory grief, as well as trauma.

I use an Integrative and holistic approach to therapy that may include the use of: Mindfulness Training, Motivational Interviewing, ACT, Trauma-informed care, Moral Recognition Therapy, Transpersonal Therapy, and (currently training in) EMDR.

Experience, Connection, Non-judgment, Trust, and Willingness, are just a few of the cornerstones to growth.  Together we can explore the obstacles and challenges that keep you from healing, growing, and achieving the life you desire.  I currently work with clients 19 years of age and older.

"We do not believe in ourselves until someone reveals that deep inside us something is valuable, worth listening to, worthy of our trust, sacred to our touch. Once we believe in ourselves we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight or any experience that reveals the human spirit."

Hello and welcome!

After obtaining my Master's in Social Work, I moved from Michigan to Oregon to further my career and immerse myself in the diverse experiences the west coast offers. With over six years as a behavioral health specialist at an outpatient medical facility, I've had the opportunity to conduct therapy with a broad spectrum of individuals and families. This experience has been a driving force behind my transition into private practice, especially considering the scarcity of therapists in the Rogue Valley. I am deeply passionate about working with adolescents and adults of all ages. I've had the privilege of gaining extensive experience working with new parents, particularly those who have grappled with postpartum depression and anxiety.

As a licensed clinical social worker with a Master's degree from Grand Valley State University, I bring a compassionate and experienced approach to therapy. I offer personalized therapy sessions tailored to your specific needs. My empathetic approach creates a non-judgemental space for you to address personal challenges and find inner peace.

My expertise spans various therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Gestalt Therapy, Strength-Based Therapy, and Narrative Therapy. Recognizing the need for professional support is a significant and courageous step, and I genuinely appreciate that you've taken it. I'm here to help and support you on this journey.

Important Note: I uphold confidentiality and abide by the ethics, laws, and policies in regard to privacy.

I started my work in the helping profession as a teen, when I served in my local church. It was as a young teen that I really desired to help others. After graduating from Warner Pacific College in Portland, Oregon with a Bachelors of Science in Human Development, I began working in a residential group home. Then I pursued and completed my graduate degree at Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa Idaho. I have been working as a mental health therapist ever since.

I consider my practice to be a partnership with each client and consider it an honor to be a part of the journey. I have experience with all age groups, cultures, individuals, parents, and families. I have experience working with all types of family dynamics, social economic classes and religious backgrounds.

I specialize in ages 0-18 years of age, parenting, and family therapy. I have hours of trainings in many modalities such as CBT, DBT, CPS, CPP, mindfulness, parenting, attachment, interpersonal skills, communication skills, and social skills. I have worked extensively with children, teens and families in crisis and in the foster care system. I also have personal experience with foster children, adoption and attachment challenges as I have been a foster parent of 16 children of which I adopted 3.

I am a practicing Christian and can incorporate the Christian faith into therapy at the client's request.

At MCW

Dr. Keeler gained experience working in a hospital setting collaborating with physicians and patients who were undergoing palliative care, organ transplant, bone marrow transplant, physical rehabilitation, cancer treatment, diabetes treatment, and chemical dependency rehabilitation. As a health psychology resident, her understanding and belief in a collaborative approach was further solidified. Dr. Keelers interest in women’s health led to a fellowship at Confluence Health and Central Washington Hospital in Washington State. She worked as part of the medical team within three different clinics OBGYN, Women’s Health Primary Care and Internal Medicine.
