I have lived on the South Coast of in Oregon for six years. I am very fortunate to be working as a mental health counselor for Stronger Oregon as it has been rewarding and fostered my personal and professional growth.

I have training and experience in treating anxiety, depression, adult ADHD, adult spectrum disorder, bipolar disorder and personality disorders.

I graduated in 1986 from the University of Utah where I was first trained in the cognitive behavioral approach. I worked as a paraprofessional at the University of Utah Counseling Center for 18 months, learning and applying CBT for general and test anxiety, depression, assertiveness training, mindfulness and meditation.

I was also the teacher's assistant for the psychology of dreams class for six years. I became a father of four children and went back to graduate school in 1998 and graduated with a Master's Degree in Counseling with Mental Health Specialization from the University of Pheonix in 2001. I have held an LPC since 2003.

I was a clinical director for 14 years in Utah prior to moving to Oregon in 2016. I am very proficient in diagnosing mental health conditions, but I work with a person, not a diagnosis.

My name is Taylor Smith (she/her) and I entered clinical social work because I believe in the power of relationship as a vehicle for growth and healing, and because I also believe it’s important to recognize the systems of power, control, and culture that impact our well being. I strive to be BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ allied and affirming. I value helping individuals find peace and joy in their identity.

Modalities I pull from include: Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR). Teachers who guide me in this work include Tara Brach, Pixie Lighthorse, Nedra Glover Tawwab, Gabor Mate and my own therapist/healing work. An overarching goal I have for clients I work with is for them to build tolerance for the whole spectrum of emotions and learn to experience them as neutral information, or even as wisdom that leads to informed choice.

Experiences that led me down the path of clinical social work include several years of social justice work in Oregon prisons during my undergraduate studies at the University of Oregon and seven years of advocacy and peer counseling for survivors of gender-based violence. I completed my Master of Social Work (MSW) at Portland State University in 2022 and am currently a Certified Social Work Associate (CSWA) under supervision and working towards licensure. For the past year and a half I worked as a behavioral health consultant in a primary care setting addressing whole person health: mental, emotional, physical and day to day functional well being. I look forward to pulling this wider scope into practice here at Stronger Oregon.

Common labels we put on experiences that might be a good fit for my expertise include: anxiety, stress, trauma, abuse, gender affirming care, grief, attachment wounding, codependency, family members of people with addiction, boundary setting work, and life change/transitions. This is a non-exhaustive list and if my approach seems like a good fit for you, I encourage you to reach out!

Welcome! My name is Tessa Potter, and I am currently a Professional Counseling Associate working toward professional licensure. I have been working as therapist for the last 5 years in outpatient and school-based settings. I'm a native Oregonian and am now raising my family in the beautiful Pacific Northwest.

In my free-time, you'll find me spending lots of time with my husband and kids, traveling for new adventures, trying new recipes, and reading any genre of book. I graduated with my Master's of Arts in Professional Counseling from Liberty University in 2018.

I began my career as a school-based therapist working with children ages 5-18. After transitioning into a group practice, I have gained more experience working with adults while continuing to work with children and their families in therapy. I now serve people from age 5 through adulthood. At the heart of my practice is a person-centered approach that accepts people non-judgmentally with a warm and authentic presence. I work to individualize treatment approaches and use play-based therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. It is always my goal to grow and learn more tools to bring into therapy and am expanding my knowledge on mindfulness and DBT.

I have worked with people experiencing a variety of stressors including anxiety, depression, trauma, parenting, grief, and other life transitions.

My focus is for clients to drive their own healing while I work to be the support in the passenger's seat. Through collaboration, clients prioritize the goals that are important to them and will make a lasting impact on their quality of life.

Our time together is a safe place for people of all backgrounds who can be genuine in themselves without judgement. My priority is to build an unique relationship with each person to facilitate healing and growth. I invite you to allow me to join you on your journey and hope we can restore peace and healing into your life.

“When you least expect it, Nature has cunning ways of finding our weakest spot…Right now you may not want to feel anything. Perhaps you never wished to feel anything…But feel something you obviously did. …If there is pain, nurse it. And if there is a flame, don’t snuff it out. Don’t be brutal with it. We rip out so much of ourselves to be cured of things faster…But to make yourself feel nothing so as not to feel anything ― what a waste!” - André Aciman

Do you feel disconnected & detached? Are you struggling to find peace & security with yourself or in your relationships? Our minds & bodies are interdependent- so reliant on one another that they often try to protect themselves by splitting apart or shutting down. Pain, loss, & stress are unavoidable & it can be so tempting to numb ourselves to try to minimize their impact. Inevitably, we numb the good along with the bad.

As a Master in Social Work and pre-licensed clinician I’ve worked with clients of all ages and circumstances, but have dedicated much of my personal study over the years to sex and relationship dynamics. In my private practice, I specialized in working with clients who are in relationship transitions. Some may be seeking conscious uncoupling, navigating painful breakups, identifying and understanding patterns in romantic or platonic relationships, shifting from monogamy into polyamory or other partnership structures, or working to better understand their own bodies when it comes to sex, sexuality, and gender experiences alone and with peers or partners.

Whether you have a specific goal in mind, need someone to offer blanket support, or seek to learn and practice new skills, I can incorporate interventions from a variety of modalities, including compassion-focused therapy, narrative therapy, CBT, DBT, art therapy, EFT-tapping, attachment-based therapy, Gestalt, eclectic therapy, somatic therapy, and mindfulness & guided meditation. We all need something different to tap into our unique healing and growth. Vulnerability is uncomfortable at best but so very necessary, & I would be honored to accompany you on a journey to find your way to face these challenges with confidence, strength, grace, & resilience.

I am happy you’re here, & I can’t wait to meet you!

My practice is person-centered, which means it is anti-capitalist and liberationist: for fat bodies, for LGBTQIA+ bodies, for disabled bodies, and for black and brown bodies first and foremost.

As someone who identifies as bicultural, I can empathize with the many barriers associated with finding a provider who can understand various cultural differences that take place in our world. I approach the therapeutic relationship as a client’s journey of self-exploration to increase their self-awareness and understanding. This approach emphasizes the client's resources for becoming self-aware and any barriers to personal growth, places the client at the center of therapy, and allows the client to determine the direction of therapy.

From my experience, clients are much more inclined to own and operate a solution if it is their own. I believe the client has the answers to their questions.

Depending on the client and the situation I use a variety of counseling techniques and theories. I use a comprehensive approach to the therapeutic alliance utilizing techniques from Solution Focused, Person Centered, Cognitive Behavioral Theory, through motivational interviewing and talk therapy. Essentially, I help the client identify their problem, their resources and motivation for change, and how they interpret and respond to how they feel and act towards situations.

I believe that all individuals have the ability to reach their greatest potential by building a therapeutic relationship built on support, empathy, unconditional positive regard, mutual respect, and acceptance for the client.

I hold a Master’s Degree in Counseling from Oregon State University. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate. I uphold confidentiality and abide by the ethics, laws, and policies in regard to privacy.

Hello, my name is Brian and I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I've been working as a mental health professional with hospice patients and families for over 7 years. I will work with you individually to address a range of life challenges including anxiety, depression, healing from trauma, grief, and other life transitions. I like to incorporate mindfulness practices and self-awareness in therapy.

I hold a masters degree in social work from Portland State University. My professional experience has included working with individuals and families as patients near the end of life. Many of the old ways of coping don’t work well anymore and the social worker helps individuals and families to move closer to a place of acceptance in their heart and mind as the individual and family transition together.

Purposeful change comes from acting in a different way than we are now, influencing thought patterns, and focusing on feelings and how they impact our choices. Purposeful change is rarely a comfortable process but the outcome is worth the effort. My goal is to empower you to become someone you are proud to be.
