My experience has always been with the neurodivergent population, specifically the women like myself that were too high masking to be seen, yet always felt different. If you are silently struggling to live up to your potential or feeling like you don't know how to be your authentic self, I get it. I don't take the expert role, rather help you uncover your happiest self through acceptance and accommodation. Two important challenges neurodivergent women struggle with.

l take an eclectic approach to therapy by combining person centered therapy, CBT, DBT informed, IFS informed and somatic experiencing to create a mind body connection so many of us neurocomplex individuals struggle with. While ultimately those that I work with want to become authentic and experience emotional freedom, often complex trauma comes along for the ride. The combination of therapy tools simultaneously address these issues as well.

I completed my undergrad with University of Phoenix and my Master in Christian Counseling at Houston Baptist University in Houston, TX in 2020. While I do have the niche ability to practice Christian counseling, my special interest is in deconstructing from religious trauma.

In addition to viewing life and therapy through an ADHD and ASD lens, I became certified in 2024 to assess and evaluate these conditions. I currently only evaluate adults and can accommodate a therapeutic model and traditional model. Therapeutic assessment involves 6-8 sessions and is relationship based for those looking for personal answers and a less intense assessment experience than traditional testing. Traditional evaluation involves extended appointments over 3-4 days and is best for those looking for a hard and fast diagnosis to take to other medical providers, schools, work, etc.

Whatever aspect of neurodiversity you are dealing with, you are not alone and you do not have to stay stuck there. Together we will create the strategies that help you become your authentic self and create a life you love.

My name is Taylor Smith (she/her) and I entered clinical social work because I believe in the power of relationship as a vehicle for growth and healing, and because I also believe it’s important to recognize the systems of power, control, and culture that impact our well being. I strive to be BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ allied and affirming. I value helping individuals find peace and joy in their identity.

Modalities I pull from include: Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR). Teachers who guide me in this work include Tara Brach, Pixie Lighthorse, Nedra Glover Tawwab, Gabor Mate and my own therapist/healing work. An overarching goal I have for clients I work with is for them to build tolerance for the whole spectrum of emotions and learn to experience them as neutral information, or even as wisdom that leads to informed choice.

Experiences that led me down the path of clinical social work include several years of social justice work in Oregon prisons during my undergraduate studies at the University of Oregon and seven years of advocacy and peer counseling for survivors of gender-based violence. I completed my Master of Social Work (MSW) at Portland State University in 2022 and am currently a Certified Social Work Associate (CSWA) under supervision and working towards licensure. For the past year and a half I worked as a behavioral health consultant in a primary care setting addressing whole person health: mental, emotional, physical and day to day functional well being. I look forward to pulling this wider scope into practice here at Stronger Oregon.

Common labels we put on experiences that might be a good fit for my expertise include: anxiety, stress, trauma, abuse, gender affirming care, grief, attachment wounding, codependency, family members of people with addiction, boundary setting work, and life change/transitions. This is a non-exhaustive list and if my approach seems like a good fit for you, I encourage you to reach out!

I have over 10 years experience working in residential and community settings providing services to youth and their families. I draw from many modalities and adjust based on my client’s needs.

I received my Masters degree in Clinical Counseling from George Fox University in 2013. This new career path came after I had been a foster parent for several years. I have much experience with youth in foster care and their caregivers. I am certified Post Adoption and FosterCare therapist with ORPARC which has given me a strong foundation when working with this population. I also really enjoy working towards reunification goals both with the biological family and the youth as they navigate emotions especially after a long periods in care.

For younger children, I believe their language is play so will often incorporate play therapy techniques in sessions. Parent participation is strongly recommended as young people often struggle with big emotions and don’t know how to express themselves. The best way for me to teach them and incorporate better coping strategies is for them to practice at home as well.

For tweens, teens and young adults I believe developing their voice and autonomy is very important. We will navigate treatment planning and therapy goals collaboratively with parental involvement as necessary. I rely strongly on Dialectical Behavioral Therapy(DBT) for this age believing the positive effects in learning distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, emotional regulation, and mindfulness skills will benefit everyone. DBT is especially effective when treating youth experiencing suicidal ideations or self harm.

I will work with any diagnosis including but not limited to Anxiety, Depression, PTSD, ADHD, and Oppositional Defiant Disorder. I am accepting of all cultures, sexual and gender orientations. I look forward to getting to know you and help you be your best self!

My passion for mental health led me into a career where I am privileged to walk alongside others who want to improve their lives. I studied psychology at the University of Oregon and social work at Portland State University. As of 2024, I have six years of experience in the mental health field and have worked with clients in a variety of settings, including schools, outpatient, and intensive outpatient (“IOP”) therapy. I have had success with helping others navigate anxiety disorders, mood disorders, trauma disorders, neurodevelopmental disorders (ADHD, ASD, FASD), and more. I enjoy helping others get through many tough spots in life, like family conflict, LGBTQ+ issues, school and career related issues, and life transitions.

As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I am a proud provider of queer and trans-affirming care. This also means I welcome working with family members who want to improve their understanding and be better allies. I strive to meet everyone where they’re at and to create a judgment-free space. At the end of the day, I think we have more similarities with each other than differences, and we all want to live life as our true selves.

My clients would describe me as someone who is direct but gentle and determined but patient. I am someone who will enthusiastically encourage you to follow your path and also point out when you’re dousing the path with gasoline. I have been told that people feel like I handle their difficult stories with genuine respect and care. In the therapy room, I like to let you guide our conversation, but I’m also happy to provide structure to those who want it.

I’m an eclectic provider, but I gravitate towards narrative therapy, internal family systems, attachment-based therapy, and trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy. In plain English, that means that I like helping you make sense of the things that have happened to you, relearn how to connect with other people in a healthy way, and to teach you how to assess your own patterns and behaviors in a way that reduces your symptoms. I’m comfortable working with those 8 and up and adapt my approach to be developmentally appropriate.

Outside of the therapy room, I’m usually working on writing short stories, playing piano, gardening on my balcony, or getting into a new video game. I also have an unexplainable fondness for mediocre reality shows and time-consuming board games. If I wasn’t a therapist, I would be a science fiction author.

I hold a humanistic perspective, meaning that I believe you are whole, deserving, and perfect at your core. I trust that your inherent intelligence and ability to connect to yourself can be revealed and encouraged through the therapeutic relationship that we will create together, which is why I will often turn to you for answers. I respect that you are the ultimate authority on your life and experience.

The relationship between client and therapist is the most important part of your healing, so let's see if I am the therapist for you. I practice holistic and integral psychology, taking the whole body, mind, and spirit into consideration, bringing a somatic, depth, and transpersonal approach to our work. My practice is integrative: weaving elements of ecopsychology, dreamwork, mindfulness, and body-centered expression, and I also strongly rely on CBT, Narrative Therapy, Hakomi, and a psychodynamic approach to understand the unconscious stories we tell ourselves. Using mindfulness we will often pay attention to “where” and “how” feelings and experiences are held within your body, and explore the deeper meanings in your life, as well as the deeper reasons behind your challenges and difficulties. I don't subscribe to the belief that there is something wrong with you, rather "what happened to you".

For therapy to work there needs to be personal accountability. While I work from a compassionate stance in helping you figure out what works for you, my style is very honest and direct. I am much more of an engaged and directive therapist than a passive listener, and I will assume you are coming to therapy to make changes.

I work with many issues, but some of my favorite specialties include: narcissistic abuse - children and partners of narcissists, domestic violence and domestic abuse, chronic illnesses, invisible disabilities, adult immigrants, Bipolar Disorder, codependency, and teen/young adult issues.

I am here to walk this walk with you thanks to having overcome many of my own personal life challenges that have given me the empathy and understanding to be real with you. Congrats on taking the first step of reaching out for the help you deserve.
