When life feels overwhelming, when sharks are circling your vessel with teeth bigger than your engine, you’ll need to upgrade to a bigger boat – that is, a bigger toolbox. You need more resources, more support, more skills. We’ve all been there. The cool thing is, once we build this bigger boat – toolbox – it will serve us the rest of our days. Once you have those skills, nothing can take them away.

In my work, I draw from a number of modalities and practices, but my primary approach is called ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy). To me, ACT is about freedom. Freedom from the destructive thoughts that hold you back. Freedom from enslavement to painful emotions and the frantic efforts to make them stop. It’s about not feeling like a prisoner in your own head. Since receiving my Master of Social Work degree in 2007, I’ve spent much of my career working with people living with acute and chronic illness, particularly cancer. My life’s work is helping people adjust to difficult life changes, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, and other challenges. I have a special place in my heart for women transitioning to motherhood and the post-partum issues that so often arise, and individuals facing the ongoing challenges of parenting. I love the expressive arts and using poetry therapy (which sounds stuffy and boring but isn’t) to help clients find their own voice. I am open to working with adults of all ages, teens, and families. LGBTQ+ clients welcomed and valued.

My approach is grounded in compassion. It is about finding your own strengths and bolstering them with new skills to spark real and lasting change. I believe in kindness, humor, and connection, and I believe there is hidden treasure in everyone. Struggle is part of life, but struggle shouldn’t drive the bus, leaving us flailing around with no lap belt and gum stuck to our seats. You deserve to be the driver of your life, and you can build a boat stronger than the sharks. If you’re here, you’ve already started!

Hi there, my name is Allison Schrader. I graduated from the Masters in Social Work program from Portland State University and have spent the last 5 years working in elementary and middle schools supporting students with academics, personal discovery, family issues, and everything in between. Outside of that I spent time working at a half way home for families, coordinating and planning a high school aged summer camp for 5 summers, and interning at the Boys and Girls Club.

I have a firm belief that every individual in this world deserves to feel loved, seen, heard, and cared for. Therapy may look different for everyone but at the end of the day. By utilizing the practices of Motivational Interviewing, CBT, DBT, Narrative Therapy, Attachment Theory, and pairing them with a strengths based approach, I am confident that we will find a rhythm in our therapeutic relationship. My goal is to create a safe space for us to collaboratively seek truth, growth, and solutions to empower you to take on each new (or existing) challenge with confidence. Working in schools has equipped me to help you tackle anxiety, depression, self harm and suicidal ideation, substance use and abuse, LGBTQIA+, family dynamics and trauma, school related concerns, and social anxiety.

Outside of my role, I am a native Oregonian who loves to be outside doing most anything: hiking, paddle boarding, snowshoeing, camping, etc. I am also an musician and have been for most of my life - I love live concert events and performing on the weekends.

I look forward to meeting you, supporting you, and encouraging you in this thing we call life!

I am a Certified Trauma Professional (CTP)/ Certification Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) / Professional Counselor Registered Associated

I like to work collaboratively in a way that is holistically driven through the exploration of experiences, interests, and skills to determine a goal and plan for change(s) that need to be made to achieve a successful outcome. I value your thoughts and feedback as we collaboratively work together to reach your goals.

I received my bachelor’s degree from Linfield College where I majored in Psychology. I hold a master’s degree from Western Oregon University in Mental Health and Rehabilitation Counseling. I hold a certification from the Commission of Rehabilitation Counselors. While receiving my formal education in counseling, I worked as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor. I also worked as a primary therapist and screener for an early intervention program supporting young people who experience psychosis.

As we work together there may be times in which it will be uncomfortable. However, with this discomfort comes growth. I look forward to our work together. Welcome and thank you for allowing me to walk alongside you on your journey.

Are you longing for greater joy, aliveness, connection, and peace in a world that has seemingly gone mad??? Well, you’re not alone. Let’s face it, life can get frickin’ hard! If you’re tired of pretending and are looking for a therapist with a non-traditional holistic approach who can keep it real with you, then please read on.

Hello and welcome… I’m super happy you’re here!!! I know it can be challenging to find a therapist you trust enough to open up to. Hopefully, by sharing a little about me and my therapeutic approach, you can get a feel for whether or not I may be a good fit to support you. I am an intuitive holistic mental health practitioner and life coach with over 30 years of experience, who utilizes a unique integrative mind, body, and spirit approach that can help empower you to re-balance the energy of your nervous system so that you can start experiencing more calm, happiness, safety, and connection in your life.

I specialize in dealing with trauma and relationship issues of all kinds (from past to present) and am also LGBTQ+ friendly. When our nervous system is out of balance (often due to stress, lack of safety, connection, and trauma), it can cause us to get stuck in the survival states of fight, flight, or freeze, which can lead to chronic depression, anxiety, anger, mood swings, interpersonal conflict, or other mental and physical health issues. Drawing upon the fields of energy psychology, somatic (body-based) therapy, and neurobiology, we can locate the energetic kinks in your nervous system at the emotional, mental, and physical level and re-balance them, in order to naturally relieve mental health issues and improve relationships.

My approach is not for everyone and if you are looking for a therapist who will just listen and let you vent, then I’m probably not the right fit for you. While I am compassionate and non-judgmental, I am also very honest and direct, with a let’s keep it real, no BS active approach to providing you with simple and practical tools to empower yourself and your relationships, while maintaining personal accountability for your choices.

On a more personal note, I live in Roseburg with a wonderfully rebellious teenager, five dogs, and two cats. In my limited spare time, I enjoy jet skiing, heading to the beach, reading, or finding my zen somewhere in nature. Like you, I have had to overcome my own share of personal challenges in life and there is typically not much I hear that I have not also dealt with personally. That’s what allows me to keep it real with you and share tools with you that I personally know work. We are all on this crazy life journey together and would love to lend you a guiding hand, if you think we may be a good fit.
