“As a clinician I believe that every person has the right to maximize their quality of life and to live in alignment with their own values. I value and respect the courage it takes to start this process, and I believe it is my responsibility to make this journey as safe and beneficial for you as it can be.

I rely on a holistic, evidence-based approaches including recognition of systemic and societal as well as individual factors that contribute to mental health. I primarily utilize acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) constructs which include integration of cognitive behavioral therapy, emphasis on personal values, acceptance, self-compassion, and mindfulness practices. I engage in trauma-informed processes and have been trained in both EMDR and FLASH techniques. I believe in being direct and open about the therapeutic process.

I have a PhD in Disability Disciplines- Rehabilitation Counseling and have specialized training in working with those who have disabilities, particularly those who are neurodiverse such as ADHD and ASD and recognize the inherent trauma that society often creates for those who are neurodiverse and/or disabled.

I believe in fostering healing, change, growth, and resilience in a safe space that builds on your personal strengths and seeks to strengthen community and connection. I welcome the opportunity to be a support to you on your journey."

I believe in the potential of all people regardless of their history, past or upbringing. Helping clients to build self-awareness around their flaws and strengths is a journey that is imperative to personal growth and self-love. Entering therapy takes courage and following through can be hard work. My role is to help my clients reap the rewards to this work in all aspects of their lives by allowing therapeutic work to be something that carries a high return. I am truly honored to be on that journey with my clients in order to witness individuals truly blossom and step into a successful life of their own making.

I offer strengths based counseling services as well as CBT, trauma work and DBT in areas of addiction, anxiety, depression, anger and ADHD.

The real work can only begin in an environment that is safe, compassionate and understanding. I am aware of that component fully and strive to build an authentic alliance with my clients.

If you are unsure about counseling or how it can benefit you, you are not alone.

Asking for help can be a difficult step for many of us especially in a culture that conditions us to believe that seeking help equates to weakness. I whole-heartedly believe that our pain is here to show something that we need to see in order to grow. I believe our stories, when examined, exist to help us evolve, to help us understand ourselves and to teach us how to be more kind and compassionate to ourselves and others. I am here to hear, validate, reflect and create space for my clients to tell their story and to become the narrator that they were always meant to be.

Hello, my name is Sarah and I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I've been working as a mental health professional with youth and families for over 10 years. I can work with you individually or as a family unit to address a range of life challenges including anxiety, depression, healing from trauma, grief, and other life transitions. I love to incorporate creativity, mindfulness practices and self compassion in therapy.

I hold a masters degree in social work from Portland State University. My professional experience has included working with child and adolescent survivors of sexual abuse and their parents, individual and family therapist, school-based therapist, and school social worker.

My native language is English and my second language is Spanish. I lived two years in Spanish speaking countries, Spain and Ecuador, while studying and working. Although Spanish is not my native language, I have advanced proficiency in the language and have worked with many Spanish speaking families in family therapy and group counseling.

My counseling style is strengths-based because I enjoy helping others find and explore their strengths.  I value helping clients feel less alone and isolated. Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, identity issues, posttraumatic stress, family or relationship problems, dealing with life’s transitions and challenges, or seeking to improve your overall well-being, I can help you develop the strategies, skills, and insight to do so.

I offer individual, couples, adolescent, couples, and family therapy.  I use a Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) approach to help others overcome beliefs that are interfering with reaching goals or attaining personal happiness.  I also teach clients how to calm anxiety and other psychiatric symptoms by practicing mindfulness using MBCT (Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy) and learning to use acceptance as a coping skill.  I also incorporate elements of DBT (emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, and distress tolerance) into my practice to help individuals learn to manage emotions and tolerate distress in a healthy way.

I will support you in realizing your true potential with kindness and compassion.  You can create your life the way you want it to be, and I would love to be your companion on this magnificent journey! I am a telehealth therapist in Oregon currently and offering sessions through a secure video portal.  Video sessions are convenient, effective, and empowering!

Issues: Depression, Bipolar I & II, Generalized Anxiety, Social Anxiety, Panic Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, Self-Harm, LBGTQ related issues, Identity Issues, Grief/Loss, Emotional Dysregulation, Asperger’s, Sexual Trauma, Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, Self-Esteem, Schizophrenia, Addictions, Life Transitions, Career

Therapeutic Approaches: CBT, DBT, MBCT, Ego State Therapy, IFS, Play Therapy, Brief Solution-Focused, Person-Centered

Education/Experience:  I hold a BS in Psychology from Old Dominion University.  I then received an MS in Special Education from George Mason University, and was a special education teacher for 8 years (worked exclusively with individuals with Asperger’s for 3 years), prior to returning to school to receive a master’s in Mental Health Counseling from Nova Southeastern University in 2017.  My coursework emphasized community mental health aspects, interdisciplinary collaboration, prevention of dysfunction, and direct service.  This coursework provided broad-based training designed to help individuals who struggle with substance abuse, family violence, divorce, aging, and general emotional problems.  I completed my internship in counseling at the APA-accredited Faulk Center for Counseling in Boca Raton, FL, where I was an outpatient counselor for one year.  I then worked as both a community counselor and school-based counselor, working with children and adolescents, for National Counseling Group in Northern Virginia.  Upon moving to Oregon, I began working at a community mental health agency for one and a half years, working in an outpatient setting, and also providing crisis services as needed.

Kayla Boyd, Professional Counselor Associate

Hello! My name is Kayla and I am a Professional Counselor Associate working towards my professional licensure. I quite literally like long walks on the beach, chasing waterfalls and getting lost in nature, in the stars and in a good book. Getting lost in nature and books and the stories they possess helps ground me and remind me of my purpose, my story and the bright spots around me and I hope to spread some of that light to others who may need it for writing and finding their own stories.

I believe that every individual has the ability to grow, change and live a life that they are not only proud of, but a life that they feel safe in and in charge of. I believe that everyone is full of potential and has resiliency to overcome the hard and difficult things that life throws their way. I also believe that people should not have to go through these things alone. I want to offer that safe place where people can come and know that they have someone on their team and someone who will be there to sit with them in the dark times as well as the happy ones.

I tend to utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness as well as enjoy using Narrative and Expressive arts. I do use a multi-modal approach because I believe that there is no “cookie cutter” approach to counseling, that not every person can fit into one specific approach, but instead that there is an approach for every person. I aim to work with my clients at their level and with an approach/s that is best suited for them and their needs. Meeting my clients where they are at is an important foundation to the work that I do. Whether you need gentleness and guidance, someone who will challenge you and be direct or a mixture of both, we can adjust to your needs to help you feel more safe and in charge of you.

I attended Oregon State University and graduated with my Bachelor’s in Psychology with a minor in Public Health in June 2017. I took a year off to work with Adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities in a 24 hour Residential setting and continued that work there through my graduate school career. In 2018, I then went on to pursue my Masters of Arts degree with a focus on Mental Health Counseling and graduated in May 2022. During the final year of my degree (May 2021-May 2022) I worked as a Child and Family Therapist-Intern at Trillium Family Services-Children’s Farm gaining experience in Individual, Family and Group counseling with Adolescents 12-17 years old in a residential secure adolescent inpatient psychiatric facility. I continued my time at the Children's Farm Home after graduation as a full-time Child and Family Therapist until January 2024.

I have experience working with teens with severe depression, anxiety, impulse control, mood instability, ADHD, PTSD, family relational issues, psychosis, attachment issues, self-esteem issues and behavioral/anger/violent outbursts. I have had a passion for working with these small humans and transitional age youth. However, not a teen?? Don’t worry! There is an inner child and teen in all of us that still needs nurtured and cared for. Skills used with children and teens transfer to adults as well and I am excited to help adults through life's ups and downs as well. Life is a journey and I am honored to help be a part of bringing you back to you.

My philosophy and approach for individual therapy and family therapy is based in multiple theories. I have utilized strategies that focus on a strong emphasis of building resilience and developing positive coping skills through cognitive behavioral therapy and family systems.

I employ an approach that in order to understand the presenting issues for services there is a need to understand the whole system.

I also practice and am an informed clinician in PMTO (Parent Management Training of Oregon) and IFS (Internal Family Systems).

I believe in helping every person toward their potential and strength to achieve a state of holistic wellness. I believe that the most important aspect of a counseling relationship is the human connection. After establishing a mutual, trusting connection with my clients, I utilize an integrative approach, with a Narrative Therapy emphasis. Together, my clients and I work to achieve a unique blend of meaning-making, helping clients to make sense of their story, process what it means in their life today, and choose how to look forward.

I believe that each human being has a unique experience, and that with the right tools, they can work to become the master of their story. I have an empathetic yet realistic approach to counseling that helps clients get to the root of their issues quickly and effectively. I obtained a Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2018 and have enjoyed being a vessel to help clients of varying ages, races, genders, sexual orientations, and experiences achieve their potential.
