In my humble opinion, shopping (yes, I used the word “shopping”) for a therapist is simply overwhelming. Totally on par with the aggravation of using a dating app: countless profiles to filter through, wondering whether to swipe right or left, Guessing at trustworthiness and level of compassion based on a photo and a few carefully crafted paragraphs. And so we swipe. And swipe. And swipe. Hoping to match with “The One”. Perhaps a rather interesting comparison, but it’s true! There’s a lot of good therapists out there and despite the fact that there’s probably a therapist for everyone, not every therapist is for you.

My approach is to be open and honest. I’m a Gen X’er: former latch key kid, Midwestern farm girl raised on hotdish, school pizza, and the Pledge of Allegiance. A biracial (Honduran/Black American) and transracial adoptee raised in a tiny, all-white, conservative community. I was always “the only one in the room” and because of that, I figured out how to assimilate by honing my listening skills and learning how to read the room. After experiencing some major life transitions that are typically experienced at midlife, I started my journey as a therapist after my nest emptied and entered graduate school at 50. Today, I’m a single, divorced mom of two awesome adult humans, an adolescent German Shepherd mix rescue pup and an elderly cat. My happy place is travelling occasionally, reading, listening to music, and relaxing in my hammock. I find joy in the simplicity of life and believe that time waits for no man and being present and in the moment is what’s most important.

To me, being a therapist comes with major responsibilities. To be chosen and trusted by strangers with their innermost thoughts, fears, and experiences is a privilege and honour that I take seriously. I especially enjoy providing support and guidance to women in the middle-to-end seasons of their lives. This stage of life can be especially challenging and lonely due to the mental and physical challenges of menopause and life transitions such as empty nest, the Gray Divorce, caring for ageing parents, questioning sexuality, deaths of spouse or parents, and really just trying to adjust to all the changes that occur during this time of life. Life can seem overwhelmingly unfair and frustrating and cause us to feel invisible. While I feel an affinity for Internal Family Systems (IFS) and mindfulness, I draw from several modalities and focus primarily on a positive, solution focused and goal oriented approach.

Navigating this journey called life can be a lonely journey. I invite any adult to reach out if they feel a connection with me in any sort of way and are interested in finding out more. Please know that I hold space especially for those who belong to the BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and sex workers communities. I see you, I hear you, and offer sanctuary, understanding, non-judgement, and curiosity in my space. Peace

As someone who identifies as bicultural, I can empathize with the many barriers associated with finding a provider who can understand various cultural differences that take place in our world. I want to help you reach your goals in a way that works best for you and your learning style. My theoretical framework is person centered and trauma informed, to provide you with the most personalized experience. I like to incorporate multiple therapy perspectives that include; Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), as well as Mindfulness.

I have experience working in crisis services as well as outpatient Telehealth settings. My educational background includes completing a Masters in Applied Psychological Science from Pacific University. During my studies, I participated in a year-long clinical internship that focused on supporting people with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Anxiety using the evidence based practice of Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). I enjoy working with people of various backgrounds who are struggling to manage their symptoms of anxiety or depression and are looking for support in taking back control of their lives.

I am committed to creating an environment that is inclusive and respectful to all people regardless of race, color, culture, religion, spiritual practice, sex, age, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.

Dealing with challenges and stressors is an unavoidable part of our human experience, and it can certainly leave an unwanted impact in our life. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), I aim to look at the whole person, understanding how all the aspects of our lives come together to impact our minds and bodies. Healing happens when all parts of the person are aligned and integrated.

I take a holistic, strengths-based approach to therapy, working with clients to improve distress tolerance and emotion regulation, heal their nervous system, and strengthen core beliefs and values. I am passionate about working with females; in adolescence, young adulthood, and into their 30s. My therapeutic orientation draws from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness, and somatic-based practices.

My goal is to provide a safe space for clients to express what is on their minds, learn beneficial coping skills, understand the mind-body connection, and build a sense of connection with themselves and others.

Therapy is fun. Therapy is creative. Therapy is a two-person job. Therapy is human connection. Therapy is uncomfortable. Therapy is finding your authenticity. Hi! I'm Josie and before I am a therapist, I am human, just like you. When I am not doing therapist things you will catch me being human with my pet pig and cats, or thrifting for goodies. I enjoy the little glimmers in life and hope to inspire you to do the same. It is my goal to work closely with you to structure therapy to be what you need. It is so important to connect with your therapist to build a trusting relationship. This will be our first step together.

I provide gentle challenges to help you see other perspectives. I believe that we don’t grow if we are comfortable. I provide serious validation regarding your feelings and your experiences. I also don’t mind calling you out (therapeutically of course) if needed and wanted. We can also bring out our craft stashes together and do an art therapy project.

As someone who has ADHD, I understand the struggle. With my background and personal experience, we can see what works for you. We are all different! It is my hope that in our sessions you just feel like you’re talking to an honest friend who is supporting you through a non-biased and informed lens.

Remember: therapy is human connection

I believe to fully understand the impact and origins of mental health concerns we must recognize that you are a complex person with multiple intersectional identities. Instead of isolating and treating symptoms of mental illness, I notice the social, political and economic context in which you live. This allows space to acknowledge how oppressive systems may be impacting your wellbeing with the intent to remove personal shame for a systemic flaw.

I aim to see my clients fully, which includes acknowledging all of their cultural characteristics. My ultimate goal is to support my clients in reducing shame, discomfort or guilt as they lean into their own self. I support my clients in moving through life transitions and identity development. As those negative feelings reduce, I strive to guide you into feeling empowered, assertive and ready to learn alternative ways of coping.

In my practice I will work alongside you to collaborate and create goals that will help you feel better. As each individual has a personalized treatment plan, I use an eclectic approach in which I pull from multiple evidence-based practices to best fit your needs.

I hold a Master’s degree in Applied Psychological Science with an emphasis on Clinical Psychology from Pacific University.

Note: I am a Registered Associate and practice under supervision. As a Registered Associate with the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists, I hold a provisional license and receive regular supervision. While working toward full licensure, I am supervised by Jessica Daas, LMFT

All of us have a story we tell about ourselves, who we are & where we come from. But we don’t realize that a lot of how we construct this narrative is our own doing. Who wouldn’t want to be the hero, the winner, the best of the best?

Good therapy is about noticing how we’ve woven the tapestry of our life to include both success and failure, joy and pain, love and loss….to begin to notice our own strengths and incorporate them on a daily basis to find more freedom from nagging doubts, worries, concerns and the endless cycles of
restlessness that has become a standard American way of life.

My background includes thirty plus years of sharing ways to incorporate meditation, mindfulness, CBT and narrative therapy to help clients find freedom and peace of mind. I’ve taught internationally and in the U.S. at the college level, have been certified by the founder of EAP and work extensively with veterans, adults, and couples.

Welcome and thank you for visiting my page. I am very pleased to introduce myself to you.

I believe that healing is a journey and is better when it's not happening in isolation. As your therapist, I commit to walking with you through your process of healing.

Life is a journey with as many challenges as joyous moments; however, sometimes our vision is clouded due to our Mental Health struggles. Allow me to help you through those challenging moments so you can regain the ability and focus to enjoy life once again.

My goal is to work in collaboration with you and your support system to help establish the right plan for you. With the focus on what’s important to you, we will integrate the Mind, Body, Spirituality and Social aspects of your humanity through this journey . You will be the main focus on our work together. My approach is strength based and holistic and I commit to doing this work with you.

My journey in the area of Mental and Emotional health began 7 years ago working as a School Based Therapist for a K-12 school district and served students and their families. Since then, I have been well immersed in working with youth, and their families. I graduated with my Masters in Social Work in 2014 and attained my Clinical Licensure as an LCSW in June 2022. I am more than happy to begin working with you and provide services in Spanish and English.

Bilingual in Spanish and English

I was raised in Minnesota and later moved to California, where I earned my MSW at Loma Linda University. I spent five years working with the homeless population before transitioning to a more therapeutic setting. Although I initially began as a group therapist, my focus has shifted to individual therapy.

In my practice, I employ a non-judgmental and person-centered approach. I integrate motivational interviewing, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) modalities. Additionally, I may incorporate dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) skills during the therapeutic process. I am committed to helping individuals establish and work towards ongoing goals, recognizing and respecting the existence of limitations in the therapeutic journey. I create a supportive space where people can use their natural abilities to grow personally and overcome their challenges.

I believe that everyone can reach an optimum state of health. I employ an eclectic (or including all kinds of therapy types) approach with a strong reliance on cognitive-behavioral aspects. I am trained in EMDR, Trauma-Focused CBT, PCIT therapy, Infant/Toddler Mental Health, mindfulness techniques, and possess a certificate in Substance Abuse Treatment. I also have several years experience and training with sexual assault and domestic violence.

For my formal education and training; after completing my bachelor degree and obtaining a Substance Abuse Certificate, I realized I was not able to assist clients with trauma or other issues. So, I went back to school to get the degree I needed to be able to help all the people who came to me. Now, I have a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling.

My career began with teenagers in residential treatment for substance abuse, after this I worked with a younger group of 5-11 year olds in residential treatment for behavior problems. From there I moved to adults with legal issues and substance abuse, while having a second job as a sexual assault counselor. I have worked with very young children, under 1 year old and their parents, as well as older adults who are in need of resolving old conflicts in their past so they can look forward to the future and all others in between.

The therapy techniques we use depend on you and what works best for you, this is a team effort with you in the lead. Let’s talk about how I can help you today. I welcome all ages and backgrounds.
