I have lived on the South Coast of in Oregon for six years. I am very fortunate to be working as a mental health counselor for Stronger Oregon as it has been rewarding and fostered my personal and professional growth.

I have training and experience in treating anxiety, depression, adult ADHD, adult spectrum disorder, bipolar disorder and personality disorders.

I graduated in 1986 from the University of Utah where I was first trained in the cognitive behavioral approach. I worked as a paraprofessional at the University of Utah Counseling Center for 18 months, learning and applying CBT for general and test anxiety, depression, assertiveness training, mindfulness and meditation.

I was also the teacher's assistant for the psychology of dreams class for six years. I became a father of four children and went back to graduate school in 1998 and graduated with a Master's Degree in Counseling with Mental Health Specialization from the University of Pheonix in 2001. I have held an LPC since 2003.

I was a clinical director for 14 years in Utah prior to moving to Oregon in 2016. I am very proficient in diagnosing mental health conditions, but I work with a person, not a diagnosis.

I am a bilingual professional counseling associate who specializes in working with adolescents, adults, and families. I received my master's in Mental health counseling from Corban University. I also attended Western Oregon University, which is where I received my bachelor's degree while majoring in Criminal Justice and minoring in Spanish. I have experience working in Marion County Children's Behavioral Health Department and in Private practice.

My approach is strength-based, person-centered. Which allows me to meet my clients where they are by utilizing their strengths to enhance other areas we may need to work on. I integrate various evidence-based therapeutic approaches based on the specific needs of my clients.

Which allows me to establish a safe and supportive therapeutic relationship with each client I work with. It's also important for me to cultivate a therapeutic atmosphere where my clients feel at ease with opening up about their uniquely vulnerable stories, and where they are comfortable being their authentic selves.

My name is Ira, and I am a counseling associate working towards licensure. I grew up in Eugene Oregon and have been in Portland for the past 13 years. I enjoy reading and learning, and spending quality time with family and friends.

I believe that by exploring our thoughts, feelings, and past experiences we can come to a better understanding of ourselves, and learn new ways to care for ourselves and others.

I've worked several years as a drug and alcohol counselor (CADC II) prior to becoming a mental health counseling associate, and have learned to use a variety of compassionate, person-centered counseling approaches including motivational interviewing, dialectical behavioral therapy, solution focused brief therapy, emotion focused therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy.

I've used a trauma-informed lens to support clients struggling with a variety of issues such as anxiety, depression, relationship problems, anger problems, trauma responses, personality disorders, and environmental stressors.

Hello! My name is Danielle (she/her) and it's great to have you here! I hold a Master's degree in Social Work and am a licensed clinical social worker with a specialization in helping individuals facing anxiety, depression, stress, life transitions, and grief. In the past, I worked as a Behavioral Health Clinician in an outpatient Primary Care office, providing short-term therapy to people of all ages, from teenagers to older adults.

Taking the first step toward therapy can be challenging, and I commend you for being here today! As someone who has also been through therapy, I know how daunting and vulnerable it can feel. This is why I want you to know that I will listen to you carefully and without judgment. I am here to support you in achieving your goals, and I promise to empower you, help you build on your strengths, teach you new coping skills, and assist you in taking action toward the life you deserve to live.

In my approach to therapy, I tend to use a holistic and person-centered method. I incorporate different techniques from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), compassion-focused therapy, attachment-based therapy, mindfulness, eclectic therapy, Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

Let's embark on this journey together!

I believe that everyone can reach an optimum state of health. I employ an eclectic (or including all kinds of therapy types) approach with a strong reliance on cognitive-behavioral aspects. I am trained in EMDR, Trauma-Focused CBT, PCIT therapy, Infant/Toddler Mental Health, mindfulness techniques, and possess a certificate in Substance Abuse Treatment. I also have several years experience and training with sexual assault and domestic violence.

For my formal education and training; after completing my bachelor degree and obtaining a Substance Abuse Certificate, I realized I was not able to assist clients with trauma or other issues. So, I went back to school to get the degree I needed to be able to help all the people who came to me. Now, I have a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling.

My career began with teenagers in residential treatment for substance abuse, after this I worked with a younger group of 5-11 year olds in residential treatment for behavior problems. From there I moved to adults with legal issues and substance abuse, while having a second job as a sexual assault counselor. I have worked with very young children, under 1 year old and their parents, as well as older adults who are in need of resolving old conflicts in their past so they can look forward to the future and all others in between.

The therapy techniques we use depend on you and what works best for you, this is a team effort with you in the lead. Let’s talk about how I can help you today. I welcome all ages and backgrounds.

My background includes a Master’s Degree in Dance/Movement Therapy, with over 41 years of experience working with people of all ages, backgrounds and orientations. I use a variety of therapeutic techniques, depending on what works best for each individual. I have over 100 hours of training in grief and loss, with five years of experience working for a hospice organization. I also have many hours of continuing education in the area of trauma, and how to help people not only cope with, but move past the trauma to live more fulfilled lives. In addition to insight-oriented and cognitive therapy approaches, I am excited to incorporate the Emotional Freedom Technique (Tapping) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) into my practice.

My approach is person centered and strengths-based, seeing each person as the expert on themselves and emphasizing strengths rather than problems. I offer support, teach skills, and provide a safe and comfortable space for you to express yourself and explore feelings. Although therapy is work, I incorporate humor in my practice. As a dancer and dance/movement therapist, I appreciate the concepts of the mind-body connection, as what affects the mind or emotions, affects the body, and vise a versa. For this reason, I often encourage people to participate in activities that will engage both mind and body.

I have also lead many groups, including dance/movement therapy groups, grief support groups, and groups for specific populations (ie, Geriatric, Schizophrenic, deaf children). I have taught dance, worked as an artist model, and set up a peer mediation program for a Jr. High and High School in Arizona. I have been a dancer (ballet, modern), an inline skater, a skier, and hiker. Lately, I have enjoyed gardening and landscaping, taking drives to the beach, and watching British television. I have lived long enough to see how we reinvent ourselves over time, and I continue to do that. I feel this experience gives me empathy to help others reinvent themselves also.

If you would like to work with me, please complete the application below.

A warm hello and welcome!

I seek to encourage people in growing hope, in creating meaningfulness and realizing perspectives from life experiences, to self-empower and self-accept in a safe, confidential, non-judgmental space, free of stigma and shame.

Counseling can be transformative and healing. Counseling can also be challenging and uncomfortable at times. It is important to take it at one’s own pace. There are many different counselors to choose from and it can be self-empowering to choose a counselor or therapist that feels right to you.

My counseling approach is respectful, trauma-informed, person-centered, strengths-based and holistic. I believe wellness is possible through creating self-care practices, identifying and expanding positive coping and individual strengths, growing resilience and cultivating inner wisdom.

I hold a master of science in Rehabilitation Counseling from San Francisco State University and am a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC). I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). I have completed specialized training to support people with disabilities, chronic illness and functional limitiations to navigate and overcome barriers to quality of life.

Since 2011, I have completed training and worked with culturally and socioeconomically diverse people in diverse settings: community mental health, addictions/harm reduction, re-entry, transitional housing, clinical counseling, Veterans in recovery, street outreach, Veterans and community crisis/suicide prevention/intervention, vocational rehabilitation/return-to-work, and vocational organic landscape gardening training and teaching. I’ve been with this awesome Team at Stronger Oregon since 2020.

My advanced training includes: spiritually integrated psychotherapy, grief/loss counseling, EMDR, trauma and crisis counseling, adaptation to disability, substance use counseling, intersectionality of disability/social/environmental justice and ongoing cultural competency.

I am an ally and advocate to Military/Veterans, LGBT+, and BIPOC communities. My research interests are Post-traumatic growth and return to work in gardening/farming for Veterans and community living with PTSD.

Please be welcome to schedule a consult or an intake to talk more about what brings you to counseling.

Thank you so much.

Our Work Together

For adults:

I have been described as calm, grounded, attentive, and caring. I believe healing cannot be forced and we go at your own pace. At the same time, we will remain attentive to what in your life is wanting to change, and I will help you find courageous action to make it happen. Joy reveals what nourishes our true self. Grief shows us what we have loved, and what we want to preserve. Fear reveals the edge of what we know, and where we might grow.

My “theoretical approach” draws upon the principles of attachment theory and interpersonal neurobiology to create an environment of safety and trust. Here you can come into deeper knowing of your own feelings, and discover what you truly value and want from life and relationships. From this place of knowing, the courage to make change, the ability to accept what we cannot, “and the wisdom to know the difference” can all be found.

Rather than looking for canned answers or interventions, I give attention to what is happening between us in the moment. As trust is built between us, old relationship patterns, limited ways of thinking, and unfelt feelings appear for exploration and healing. You will be held in acceptance while also challenged to follow where the seed of life is wanting to grow within you.

My degree is in Clinical Social Work, and my employment background is in crisis work. In times of emotional confusion or intense pain, I use mindfulness-based skills and expressive art practices (drawing, poetry, song) to help you find safety and expression for overwhelming emotions, thoughts, or images so that they can be felt and understood. Panic and anxiety can be soothed, grief can be expressed, and depression transformed into creativity.

I am deeply influenced by Jungian ideas and my own experiences as a psychotherapy client are rooted in this framework. You are welcome to bring your night dreams, visionary imagination, and creative work into our conversations. I also incorporate ecotherapy and look to Nature as a third partner in our work, as I believe that the Earth is our first source for healing, and our deepest teacher on relationships and wholeness.

Gender, race, sexuality, disability, body type, cultural background, and other forms of lived identity are important parts of who we are. In our sessions you will be empowered to witness and draw strength from all parts of yourself, seen and unseen.

For some, “feeling better” can happen in a matter of moments. For others, the healing journey becomes the privilege of a lifetime. You can expect from our time together that you will be given usable practices to find relief from emotional distress, while also receiving support to carry forward the healing into and with your own life. What we do will reflect what you want and need at this time. I look forward to meeting you!

For kids:

I enjoy being a children’s therapist because I love spending time with kids! For fun, I enjoy music, singing, learning about plants and animals (like my friend Jennifer, the chicken in the photo), writing, and being outside with my family. I have a French bulldog named Lily who loves to go for walks around Salem. My family loves card games, especially Magic the
