Amanda Yutzie, Professional Counselor Associate

I take pride in creating space for people to explore who they've been in order to clear a path towards who they intend to be. Therapy is a place for venting, crying, growing and changing, it is also a place for laughing, celebrating, healing and connecting. If you or your child are struggling to find motivation and tools to cope with symptoms of mental health, I believe my experience and approaches to therapy can support you in walking towards your goals with more confidence, self-compassion and joy.

As a mental health professional, I am most interested in helping clients connect current behaviors with defenses that were built during past adverse or traumatic experiences. I believe that when we can understand where negative or disruptive behaviors began, we become more energized in our journey to view and interact with the world in ways that better reflect who we are. I use many modalities to accomplish this level of understanding to include DBT, CBT, collaborative problem solving (CPS) and psychodynamic approaches. I also use humor, rapport, art, music, play and experience. When working with youth, I rely on family collaboration to ensure that once their goals are met, they graduate into a support system that is empathetic and functioning in a way that allows them to continue their growth and learning.

Prior to receiving my Masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Bushnell University, I spent 7 years working with children and adolescents who had been admitted to inpatient mental health facilities for otherwise unregulated symptoms of depression, anxiety, PTSD, bi-polar disorder, suicidality, ADHD, psychotic disorders and severe defiance. It was through this work that I realized children and adults alike require more support than ever to identify, acknowledge and communicate emotional needs in a way that works for them and translates to the world around them. While impulsivity, poor ability to sustain attention, anxiety, poor emotion regulation, depressed mood, overthinking, and difficulty meeting expectations may all be diagnosable, they are also unconscious statements meant to shed light on unmet needs.

Since becoming established as a Professional Counselor Associate, I've been lucky in having opportunities to provide individual, family and couples therapy to people aged 4 to 50 with a wide variety of therapeutic goals. I am grateful to serve many populations and feel most passionate about serving school aged youth, as I feel I am able to help them find their voice and speak up into a world that so often dismisses their cries for help. If you've found yourself or your child in persistent conflict with those around you, I look forward to working alongside you to reduce the emotional stress, tension and fatigue that is weighing you down. Together we can replace defenses with coping skills and work through grief to better understand who you are.

I see clients for in person therapy, keeping Telehealth as an option for pre-existing clients who need short term accommodations for matters such as illness, COVID exposures and transportation issues.
