I believe counseling must be a collaborative effort in which the client and clinician work together to identify needs, concerns, aspirations, and to develop a clear vision for the work they are to do together. My role as a counselor is to help guide individuals through the process of discovering their inherent strengths and barriers which can involve identifying and working through past and/or present conflicts. Collaboration is a key element in my practice as we work together to build a healthy therapeutic relationship where we can experience trust, empathy, and acceptance, and respect for all parties involved.

The counseling process may look different for each client. The approach used and the length of treatment may vary due to individual needs and circumstances. Clients always have the right to stop counseling at any point in treatment and/or choose a different counselor. If the client need is outside of my scope of practice I will inform the client and refer when possible. The counseling process is not easy and there are no guarantees. Initially, it may be disruptive to the client’s emotional experiences and/or relationships, however, this is a normal part of the counseling process.

I graduated from Corban University with a Masters in Family Life Studies in 2014. Shortly upon graduation I began my counseling career with Youth Villages Intercept program, where I continue to provide intensive in home services to children and their families. In 2017, I decided to become a clinical supervisor with Youth Villages Intercept program. Currently (2020), I provide direct care to families and supervise. I am a trauma informed clinician certified in TF-CBT. I am also a collaborative problem solving certified clinician through Think Kids.

I believe that we all have a journey that has led us where we are, with individual challenges and opportunities. Events from the past can leave lasting impacts that lead to feeling disconnected from self or others and difficulties with living authentically. I am passionate about listening to your story to work through challenges and assist you with taking control of this journey in order to feel whole and complete.

I started my career as a teacher in at risk rural county schools in Virginia. I eventually became a teacher for Outward Bound, a wilderness therapy alternative school for adjudicated males age 14 to 17 yo. It was this experience that inspired me to pursue a career in wilderness therapy, eventually earning her Master's in Clinical Mental Health counseling at Lamar University.

My background and past clinical experience includes working in wilderness therapy, residential programs and Child Advocacy Centers in Utah, North Carolina and Oregon with at risk youth. I have worked with diverse populations, utilizing a variety of therapeutic interventions and creative methods to meet the needs of those with whom I have worked. Through use of my gifts, knowledge, and experience, I seek to empower and motivate you to overcome issues, explore and implement healthy choices, and ultimately, to live your best life.

I am trained in EMDR, an intervention for processing and deactivating trauma, and in Neuroaffective Relational Therapy. I use a variety of other modalities, including CBT, ACT, body-centered psychotherapy, and Polyvagal therapy.

I have a passion for supporting individuals on their journey of healing. I utilize sensorimotor, mindfulness, and somatic awareness to help unlock the trapped memories that are leading to distress in an individual’s life to help them live in the present moment.

I see my role as helping you hear yourself, rediscover your truths, and expand your choices on your path to greater fulfillment and serenity.
